This traditional, authentic Japanese noodle dish is all over Japan during the scorching summer months. Discover the bite & refreshing kick of this classic Japanese dish!
Preparation time 10 minutes
- 250g soba noodles
- 100g soba tsuyu (soup base)
- 1 stem of Chinese garlic (diagonally cut in small pieces)
- 5g wasabi
- 20g yam, grated
- 1 stem of spring onion (diagonally cut into small pieces)
- Roasted seaweed strips
Boil the soba noodles according to the packaging. Make sure there is still a bite in the noodles when you drain them in a colander. While draining, run cold tap water over the noodles. Place noodles on a plate. Before serving, place some ice cubes on top of the noodles and stir. This will make sure that the noodles are flexible and smooth. Garnish with roasted seaweed by preference.
Pour the tsuyu into a little bowl or cup. Add spring onion, Chinese garlic, and wasabi to your own preference. Stir until the wasabi is dissolved.
Curious to try a Japanese condiment? Prepare tororo by rasping some yam. Place it on top of the noodles. This fluffy white condiment will give your noodles a surprisingly soft taste twist!
Now all that is left to do is to dip the noodles in the tsuyu and taste it. Piece of cake, isn’t it?
