Arroz a la Cubana is a household favorite in many Spanish-speaking countries or former Spanish colonies. It is particularly popular in the Philippines as it combines many flavors and textures: sweet, savory, soft, and crunchy, all in one bite! It is best enjoyed with some steamed rice.

INGREDIENTS

  • 25g Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix
  • 500g ground beef, lean
  • 450g rice, steamed
  • 340g cooking bananas, pan-fried
  • 4 eggs, fried sunny side up
  • 1 potato
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 60g carrots
  • 1 red onion
  • 30g raisins
  • 2 Tbsp frozen green peas
  • 4 tsp garlic
  • 2 Tbsp oil

PREPARATION

Dissolve the caldereta mix in 125 ml water. Cut the potato, red bell pepper and carrots into small cubes. Chop the onion. Mince the garlic. Slice the cooking bananas.

Heat oil in a pan, and sauté the garlic and onion for 2 minutes. Add the ground beef, sauté until brown in color and the water has dried out. Add the dissolved caldereta mix and the rest of the ingredients (except green peas), cover and cook for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are done.

Add the green peas, cover and continue cooking for another 3 minutes or until the peas are done.

Serve the sautéed beef with cooked rice on a platter with fried bananas. Top with fried egg.
