A big part of the Surinamese population is of Javanese descent, so many national dishes are inspired by the cuisine of Java, an Indonesian island. Try this classic Javanese dish with a Surinamese twist!
INGREDIENTS
Javanese noodles:
- 6 Tbsp Javanese marinade
- 500g spaghetti
- 1 celery twig, finely chopped
- Salt
- Oil
Javanese chicken:
- 4 Tbsp Javanese marinade
- 1 kg chicken legs
- 1 celery twig, finely chopped
PREPARATION
Javanese noodles
Bring a pan of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the water. Boil the spaghetti in it. Make sure the spaghetti does not become too soft (but al dente instead). Rinse the spaghetti well with water and let it drain in a colander. Add 2 tablespoons of Javanese marinade and 1 tablespoon of oil to the spaghetti and mix well. Heat a pan with 4 tablespoons of oil. Add 4 tablespoons of Javanese marinade to it. Add the spaghetti and stir-fry over a low heat until done. Before serving, add the finely chopped celery to the noodles.
Javanese chicken
Chop the chicken into pieces. Add 4 tablespoons of Javanese marinade and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Put 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Stir-fry the chicken for about 5 minutes. Put a lid on the pan and cook over low heat. It is not necessary to add water. Flip the chicken over every 5 minutes. The chicken is ready after 15-20 minutes. Before serving, add the finely chopped celery to the chicken.
