Baras are delicious savory donuts native to Suriname and Hindustan. They are made from seasoned and fried dough. In this recipe, they are garnished with cod, fresh lettuce, and marinated vegetables. Yummy!

INGREDIENTS

  • Bara (fried dough)
  • 450g Faja Lobi Bakkeljauw Filet
  • Faja Lobi Zonnebloemolie Trafasie
  • 2 onions
  • 4 Tbsp Faja Lobi Bakkeljauw Trafasie
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Faja Lobi Trassie Trafasie
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • Madame Jeanette pepper
  • 100ml water
  • Faja Lobi Zuurgoed Trafasie

PREPARATION


STEP 1: Cut the salted cod into small pieces and cook it for 20 minutes to desalt it.


STEP 2: Rinse it with cold water, squeeze out the water and drain it.


STEP 3: Heat 5 tablespoons of sunflower oil and fruit the onions until light-brown.


STEP 4: Add the cod and stir-fry for about 5 minutes until golden-brown.


STEP 5: Add the Bakkeljauw Trafasie, tomatoes, tomato paste, Trassie Trafasie, brown sugar and Madame Jeanette pepper, and stir.


STEP 6: Add water and stir. Cover the pan with the lid and simmer on medium-low heat for 10 minutes.



Serving suggestion


Carefully slice the bara and top it with the cod, fresh lettuce and Zuurgoed Trafasie.



Variation tip


Pour spicy sauce over the toppings.
