Mung beans are small dried seeds of the Vigna radiata plant. These green beans are widely used in Asian and Indonesian cuisine. As bean porridge or they are processed into flour (hunkwehmeel) where, for example, some glass noodles, Indonesian pastries and the glibbertjes of tjendol are made. They are best known as the non-germinated version of the sprouted bean sprouts.
Mung beans can best be welt in water before using. It is used to make (sweet) bean pudding or cooked if necessary as filling for pastries or bapao. Mung beans are also used to grow bean sprouts.
