Information

Kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs is a classic Malaysian breakfast dish. Of course, the meal would not be complete without a cup of Ipoh white coffee. Try it now!

Accompaniment:

  • Ipoh white coffee

  1. Bring water to a boil in a pot, then turn the heat down and let it come to a slow simmer.
  2. Gently lower the eggs into the pot and make sure that they are completely covered by the water. Let them cook for 5 to 7 minutes, depending on how runny you like your eggs.

  3. In the meantime, toast the bread slices. Spread a generous layer of kaya on one slice of the bread and place a thin slice of cold butter on the other. If you are avoiding dairy, you can replace the cold butter by peanut butter. Place the two pieces of bread together like a sandwich and cut it into half.

  4. Remove the eggs from the pot and place them under cold running water for about 1 minute before cracking them into a bowl. Add soy sauce to taste and sprinkle with ground white pepper. Serve warm.

Suggestion

Enjoy this Malaysian-style breakfast by dipping the kaya toast in soft-boiled eggs and eating it immediately. You can also enjoy it with a cup of Ipoh white coffee. Enjoy!
