Tteokbokki with fish cake
Tteokbokki, the best comfort food in Korea. The spicy, slightly sweet thick sauce in combination with the chewy rice sticks are simply addictive!

500g tteokbokki (tubular rice sticks)
200g fried fish cake
700 ml of water
1 tbsp chicken stock powder
Sauce mix
3 tbsp gochujang (red pepper paste)
1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili pepper powder)
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp sugar
2 garlic cloves
Toppings
2 hard-boiled eggs
2 spring onions
sesame seeds
- Place the rice cake in a bowl of water. Add boiling water and let it soak for 10 minutes. Drain the water.
- Cut the fish cake into thin slices. Mix the ingredients for the sauce mix in a bowl.
- Bring 700 ml of water to the boil. Then add the chicken stock powder and sauce mix and stir until the sauce mix has dissolved. Once the stock boils again, add the fish cake slices, rice cake and onions. Let it cook for another 5 minutes or until the rice cake is completely cooked. Turn the heat down and let it simmer gently for 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened. Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions.
- Serve with the hard-boiled eggs.
